Description

An Irish tradition - whole wheat scones.  Best served up with jam and butter.

Ingredients

250 g
wholemeal flour
4 t
baking powder
4 t
Sugar
1⁄4 t
Salt
50 g
Butter (softened)
150 ml
milk
1  
egg (beaten)

Instructions

  1. Mix together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and butter.
  2. Add milk and bring together into a dough.
  3. Leave dough to rest for 15 minutes.
  4. Turn dough out onto floured surface and gently press to 3cm/1" thick.
  5. Cut out scone shapes and place on a floured baking sheet.
  6. Brush scone tops with beaten egg.
  7. Bake at 220°C/425ºF/Gas 8 for 10-12 minutes.
