Revere beach, Foccaccia, Whole Foods vs. Boston Organics, & Risk

"Borrowed" the photo from Revere.org.  This is a NICE beach.  A gentleman who had just come out of the water (and was still bare chested, in this wonderful February weather) assured me that the water is quite shallow for quite a ways in.  I think he was still 'high' from his dip BUT its not much colder than some days in Galway and who am I to question his desire to polar bear (though no ice!).

We decided very early in the morning that we were finally going to do something different this weekend.  I wanted to go to the beach and this was the one we picked.  It's straight East of where we're living.

We took Maya along and she really wanted to get at the fat gulls.

After that, we went to Wholefoods for our usual shopping.  Recently we've been debating whether to have organic vegetables delivered via Boston Organics or to keep shopping for them at Wholefoods.  My price comparison as of today, as well as the bad reviews on Yelp for Boston Organics from people on their Friday delivery schedule (which we would be) have convinced me that its more worthwhile to get our veggies (at least in the winter) from Wholefoods.  I might reconsider come summertime - but then again there is the local farmer's market which I have yet to check out.

Besides, we're not so nutty for organics that we'd rather go for cheaper grub from time to time.

Oh, so in other news I kicked Steph's butt at Risk (he is my personal slave until the rematch, as all conquered enemies should be!).  Ah yes, and we made Foccaccia last night - it's dry today... next time will need to store in plastic.

One tiring weekend after another...

Adventures of Choukie

In my not so old age I'm left wondering: Where does all the time go?

Another weekend just whizzed by!  We entertained company on Saturday night with our in-house karaoke followed by some one-on-one battles with the Wii.  Then yesterday was called up to go ice skating for the first time in years!  Took me half a rink to remember what to do with my feet.  Steph's still learning but growing more confident!

Looking to get fit using the Nintendo Wii.  I recommend Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort.  Both are enough to get your stretching, muscle training, and blood pumping.  Though the former isn't as good for getting sweaty as the latter - and even then it's more if you're into the games that require more movement.  So far it's sword fighting and canoeing that seem to take a lot of work.  Graphics are good and the games are fast enough.  As for losing weight - although my inactive muscles are screaming, there's no luck yet.  Maybe in a few months time.

Maya has been running herself silly with the new ball thrower.  Cold weather also puts her in a state of semi-hibernation when she's indoors.  I'm just lucky there aren't too many squirrels around to distract her.  The exchanges in the dog park are interesting with different dogs playing Alpha.  Its enough material to motivate me to write some more tales.  At the moment, Eun-Ah has taken over editing the last one.  I'm more determined to put up the Storyteller website to post my own fiction as well as older more traditional stories.  It is hard to roll out ideas from the conceptual stage to production.  My imagination is working overtime, need to write it down!

Status update

Sleeping dog with books

Been keeping myself busy with recruiters and interviews, fingers crossed that I will find that job and that it will also find me in mutual good company!  Threading the needle with a string of biopharma is a long and patient task.

In the meantime, had some minor surgery done and spent the last week recovering.  Still going for acupuncture for the carpal tunnel (which appeared to have been stress induced seeing as I'd never gone for surgery before) and spent the week recovering from the after affects of general anesthesia.  The subsequent migraine that hit me in the last three days was unstoppable and so been dosing myself with Tylenol.  To my relief, this evening it seems to have left me.

I'm catching up on the world of Velgarth by M. Lackey.  It's so nice to be re-united with all of my collection that was sitting in Toronto the last five years or so.  I'm not reading in depth, more speed reading since I've read these books at least five times each in the past.  Working through my library is also a good distraction from having to wait for phone calls and feedback!

Maya has been a good sport and we've been letting her off-leash finally with her coming back consistently enough that I'm happy.  It's so nice not to have a dog that attacks other dogs as well!  Though, I'll never forget Scruffy.  She's being spoilt rotten with home made dog food featuring old peppers and chicken liver.  She eats crusty old bread as well!!! Our own waste disposal.

Finally, keeping fit with our very own Wii.  Have to say I prefer the active games to the usual racing games.  Though I've always been partial to mortal kombat.  We've got Wii sports resort and the Wii fit plus.  I would recommend both with 5 stars as I'm not at all bored like I was after a week of playing the Wii fit and original Wii sports (borrowed c/o friends).  I think their games are getting better as they tailor the new types of games to their audience.  Steph beats me at most games but I can totally crush him when it comes to duelling with swords! :)
