Playing house... ;)
Its amazing how the sound of keys and the door opening will get Maya off her bed and to the door in 1 second flat. Whereas, calling her by name and going over and poking her has the effect of her rolling over on her back and exposing her belly while all the while sleeping with no intention of getting up.
Today, I've decided to take my status as a kept-wife (a.k.a. house wife, family manager, home economist, home engineer, homemaker, lady of the house, mistress of the house, wife and mother) seriously and so took on the onerous task of sorting through the clothes that came in those wonderful boxes to finally put away all the summer things and hang up all the winter things. That took the good part of the morning.
About noon, commenced cooking (for the week though with Steph it means for the next three days) lentils, soup, and whatever else looked interesting. Cut up an Acorn Squash that was startng to look like it wanted to be used. Instead of the usual pumpkin curry, decided to find Michel Durham's recipe for Pumpkin pie.
Unfortunately, I don't have all the ingredients... so I'm going to substitute the evaporated milk with half n' half cream and instead of cornstarch double the quantity of eggs (2 eggs). Also, lacking the necessary brown sugar will attempt to use up my ample supply of white sugar. Don't have a spice grinder yet - so cooked the pumpkin with ginger, cloves, & a cinnamon stick to pre-flavour. Will add the ground nutmeg once cooled. I do have pie shells in the fridge - so we'll see how this goes! Either way, should be edible by the end (I hope!).
